A township chiropractor pleaded guilty Thursday in Superior Court on a charge of fraudulently billing a health insurance company.

Kenneth Thorn, 59, of Dilts Lane who has an office in the Martinsville section, pleaded guilty before Superior Court Judge Paul Armstrong. Thorn pleaded to an accusation, which means he waived the right to an indictment and criminal trial.

As part of the plea agreement, Thorn's chiropractic license will be suspended and he must make restitution to the insurance carrier in the amount of $7,700, said Somerset County Prosecutor Wayne J. Forrest. Sentencing is set for Dec. 4.

In February 2008, the prosecutor's office Insurance Fraud Unit received a referral from the New Jersey Office of the Insurance Fraud Prosecutor about an an anonymous tip of possible insurance fraud, Forrest said.

The investigation found that Thorn's main clientele were employees from Wegman's and he often went into the grocery store to offer his services to employees, Forrest said.
